Sustainability

With our heritage firmly rooted in the Peak District, we continue to live and work just a stone’s throw from the rolling hills and valleys of the National Park which was the first to be founded in the UK in the 1950s. With over a third of it protected for nature conservation, its spectacular scenery with beautiful moorland, forests, abundant wildlife and plants reminds us daily of just how important it is to respect and preserve our natural resources.

It's no surprise then that the longevity of the products is central to our ethos and we believe that making things which last a lifetime is one of the best ways to truly protect our natural world for future generations.

The timber that we work with is all from FSC or PEFC accredited, sustainable sources and its high-grade quality allows us to minimise waste during production. Most unavoidable waste material is used as fuel in a special furnace to heat our workshop and offices thus saving power from the grid. Wood shavings are even sent off to local farmers for livestock bedding material. Recycling responsibly, both on site and locally within our community goes some way towards reducing our carbon footprint and impact on the environment.

We are always striving to be more sustainable as a business but to address our unavoidable CO2 emissions, Forest Carbon’s ‘Carbon Club’ plants around 400 trees on our behalf each year, in permanent new woodlands across the UK.
