We design and make doors in all styles, sizes and timbers, ranging from a 17th century ‘linenfold’ design in distressed oak, through Georgian models with raised and fielded panels, to contemporary styles in bespoke Italian veneers that would enhance any contemporary building or interior.
External doors can be made any thickness — many of ours will be from 3 inch thick oak, with the appeal of substantial weight and added security. Despite often being traditional in appearance, they are designed to work with modern draught seals and high security mortice locks. Internal doors range from a simple ‘ledge and braced’ plank door to elaborate period examples in oak or mahogany.
Gates can also be period or contemporary in design, but, as so often with our work, it is the proportions and design details taken from the past that make them stand out from the rest. We can provide bespoke ironwork to enhance the gates which can all be designed to be motorised.
We can offer a wide range of finishes, from paint and wax to tough external lacquers for exterior doors. For period designs in oak, we can distress the wood to simulate age and in some cases the timber will receive no treatment other than a clear preservative and will be left to weather naturally to a silvery grey. In this case the construction is carefully designed so that there is no risk of water entering joints and causing damage.
